Derek Chauvin Appealing Murder Conviction

(Hennepin County, MN) -- The former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd is appealing his conviction.

Derek Chauvin filed an intent to appeal with the Minnesota Court of Appeals Thursday. Chauvin also asked for a public defender earlier this month and was denied, but he's appealing that decision to the Minnesota Supreme Court.

He was convicted of second and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter back in April.
