(Bismarck, ND) -- We've always known North Dakota was giving, but a recent survey only seems to verify the thought.

Personal finance website WalletHub has released it's 2022 rankings for most charitable states in the country, and North Dakota was no exception. The Peace Garden State comes in as the fifth best state when it comes to charitability.

To determine where the most generous Americans are inspiring others to be more selfless, WalletHub compared the 50 states based on 19 key indicators of charitable behavior. The data set ranges from the volunteer rate to the share of income donated to the share of sheltered homeless.

Here are some of the key rankings in which North Dakota scored fairly well:

  • 13th – Charities per Capita
  • 19th – % of Population Who Donated Time
  • 1st – % of Population Collecting/Distributing Food
  • 10th – Volunteer Rate
  • 4th – Volunteer Retention Rate

Minnesota actually finished higher than North Dakota in the overall rankings, coming in as the third best charitable state. South Dakota finished 22nd.
