(Bismarck, ND) -- North Dakota wildlife officials are implementing a new conservation strategy aimed at protecting habitats for the state's diverse wildlife.

North Dakota Game and Fish announced the Meadowlark Initiative over the weekend, which is intended to promote and create healthy, thriving grasslands that support biodiversity and strength for wildlife, pollinators, ranching operations, and communities.

NDGF Conservation-Communication Division Chief Greg Link says it is important to protect the environmental quality of life in the state's prairie habitats. Over 70-percent of the state's native prairie has already been lost, and the new initiative is meant to restore and maintain those grasslands.
