(Rochester, MN) -- Mayo Clinic's updated modeled indicates that the fifth pandemic wave should peak this week, but that it is far from over.

Mayo provided new modeling Wednesday as state health officials reported more than 15-thousand new COVID-19 cases and more than 50 deaths. Officials say viral spread is probably already starting to decline, but that the state is only about halfway through the latest surge.

Co-creator of Mayo's predictive model Curtis Storlie says there will still be thousands of infections as hospitalizations as cases diminish.
