(St. Paul, MN) -- Health officials are reporting a record number of COVID-19 cases in Minnesota in January.

Officials say more than 275-thousand cases were announced last month, the highest monthly total for the pandemic. Health officials say the highly contagious omicron variant fueled the record number of cases.

The previous monthly record of 180-thousand was set in November 2020.
