(St. Paul, MN) -- A prisoner advocacy group is calling for COVID-19 protections for Minnesota prisoners.
The Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee is asking corrections officials to reinstate an early release policy for inmates with medical conditions. The program was discontinued after COVID-19 vaccines were approved and distributed to the prison population.
Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell says advocates overestimate his powers in connection with early releases.
