(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers are considering a proposal to impose civil fines on people who disrupt youth sporting events.
The effort comes after recent incidents of angry fans hurling abuse at referees during matches and throwing food onto courts and rinks. Lawmakers have some bipartisan support for imposing a fine of up to a thousand dollars to discourage out of control behavior from parents and fans.
A measure before the House is aimed at deterring disruptions and protecting sports officials such as referees, coaches and players.
