(Minnesota) -- Protective equipment is being donated to Ukraine from The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association and other sheriff's offices across the state.

The association says they have gathered 650 bulletproof vests, 55 helmets, and 4 shields for donation. They say the items "have been replaced at the recommendation of the manufacturer for our sworn deputies." The association says the gear will immediately provide protection for the people of Ukraine.

"All over our state, Minnesota Sheriff's rose to the occasion once again to help those in need. As we all watch the terrible images coming out of Ukraine, we are reminded that freedom is never guaranteed."

The Sheriffs' Association says they have contacts within Ukraine that will ensure the equipment will be immediately provided to those in need.
