UND names new dean for School of Graduate Studies

(Grand Forks, ND) -- Current associate dean of the UND School of Graduate Studies Chris Nelson has been named the School's permanent dean following an announcement from UND Provost Eric Link. 

Nelson was the lone finalist for the position. He has served as a top admin for the school since 2019. 

“Dr. Nelson brings years of experience working in support of world-class graduate education at UND," said UND Provost Eric Link, "He has a passion for graduate student success and has the vision and leadership needed to ensure that the school continues to have a positive impact across North Dakota, the region and the nation for years to come."

Nelson earned his doctorate in English in 2002 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He served as a Graduate Director of UND’s PhD and MA programs in English for 6 years. Nelson worked within the School of Graduate Studies to develop and implement multiple programs and initiatives like entrance/exit surveys, data dashboards, and annual 3MT completions.

Nelson will officially begin his new role on May 16th.
