(Mayville, ND) -- The city of Mayville is declaring a state of emergency after major erosion to the Mayville Dam.

One sidewall of the dam gave way last week, leading to a change in the course of the Goose River. Contractors are placing boulders into the water to create a makeshift bridge to make it possible to reach the failed sidewall and temporarily fix it.

The city declared the state of emergency after the erosion crept into the front yard of a Mayville home.
