(Sioux Falls, SD) -- The South Dakota Secretary of State says a legal cannabis measure will appear on the November 8, 2022 ballot.

The declaration follows the submission of 25,023 valid signatures which declared their support for legalizing cannabis for adults 21 and over. The innitiative required 16,961 signatures to successfully appear at the ballot box.

"We are very pleased to hear that our initiative has qualified for the November ballot, " said Campaign Director for South Dakotan's for Better Marijuana Laws Matthew Schwich, "We would first like to thank the tens of thousands of South Dakotan's who took the time to sign our petition. And of course, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who made this signature drive possible.

A similar measure passed in 2020, legalizing medical and adult-use cannabis. The legislation was eventually repealed by officials in the state.
