(Minneapolis, MN) -- The first Minnesota case of monkeypox is being reported.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the initial tests were completed Sunday, with confirmation happening after additional testing at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Health officials say the patient is an adult male in the Twin Cities area.

Contact tracing is underway in an effort to identify anyone who may be at risk of contracting the virus.
