(Bismarck, ND) -- Data released by the North Dakota Department of Transportation indicates the majority of crash deaths involve unbelted drivers and passengers.

The Transportation department says 67-percent of crash deaths in 2022 were among drivers and passengers who weren't wearing a seatbelt. Officials say seat belts are the most effective safety device to prevent crash deaths and injuries.

Preliminary data shows 18 crash deaths this year were related to lane departures, 12 were speed-related, and ten involved motorcycles.
