(Bismarck, ND) -- Bismarck native and former Miss America Cara Mund is moving forward with a campaign for a seat in Congress.

Mund announced Saturday that she is gathering the one-thousand signatures she needs to get on the ballot as an independent. She graduated last spring from Harvard Law School.

Mund would take on incumbent Republican Congressman Kelly Armstrong and Democrat Mark Haugen.

If she is elected, Mund would be the first woman to represent the state in Congress.
