$19.5 million dollars awarded to North Dakota reservations for transportation infrastructure

(Fargo, ND) -- The U.S Department of Transportation is awarding North Dakota $19.5-million dollars to support the Tribal Safety Project.

The project looks to install roundabouts, turning lanes, rumble strips, and lighting to improve public safety within the Standing Rock and Fort Berthold Indian Reservations. A letter signed by Congressman Kelly Armstrong and Senators John Hoven and Kevin Cramer outlined the safety needs for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, along with the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. 

"This construction project provides direct benefits to two underserved areas and addresses disparities in rural transportation infrastructure, consistent with the objectives of the RAISE program and the Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) initiative, respectively." the representatives wrote in a letter to the U.S Department of Transportation.

The RAISE program was given an additional $1.5 billion dollars in funding through the a bipartisan infrastructure bill signed into law this June. You can learn more by clicking here.
