(Bismarck, ND) -- In the wake of the newest challenger to U.S. Senator John Hoeven being a familiar face, the North Dakota GOP has issued a response to Dr. Rick Becker announcing he will in fact run for Hoeven's seat this November.

“It’s unfortunate that Rick Becker has decided to leave the Republican Party and run as an independent against our Republican candidate who won the convention and the Primary," said ND GOP Chairman Perrie Schaefer in a statement released to WDAY Radio. "Rick said he would respect the decision of Republican delegates and voters, and now he is doing the exact opposite. How can people count on him to do what he says he will do.”

Becker says he is running because of being fed up with recent inflation and Senator Hoeven's voting record when it comes to certain bills recently put forward and passed by the Biden Administration.

The next step to get on the ballot for Becker is to gather 1,000 signatures across the state, something he intends to do while touring all of North Dakota in the coming weeks. Becker would face off with Hoeven, as well as Democratic challenger Katrina Christiansen.
