(Bismarck, ND) -- Former Miss America 2018 Cara Mund is one step closer to making the November ballot for North Dakota's sole U.S. House seat.

Mund submitted petitions Tuesday in support of her Congressional bid.

Her submission comes after Democratic nominee Mark Haugen suspended his campaign over the weekend. Haugen says he was pressured by party leaders to drop out of the race in favor of Mund. Mund supports abortion rights, and Haugen is pro-life.

Mund's petition signatures must still be validated before she is officially added to the November ballot.

If she is added to the ballot, she will now be the sole challenger to current Representative Kelly Armstrong, who is running for re-election.
