(Bismarck, ND) -- A retired North Dakota business owner and current community organizer is throwing her hat into the ring to represent District 27 in the upcoming November General Election.

Sonja Kaye is a North Dakota District 27 State Senate Candidate. She shared her campaign priorities, what people in the district are calling their legislators to do, and voiced criticisms of the state's GOP platform.

"I am a retired healthcare professional and now work on a volunteer basis as a community organizer with the goal of making our community and state a cleaner and more sustainable one," said Kaye, "As someone who understands and follows science, I have a very deep concern for the livability of our planet."

Kaye says she the priorities she is hearing from constituents in the district include childcare improvements, high property taxes, and working to solve issues surrounding teacher retention. The candidate also voiced opposition to multiple of the state GOP's policy positions and recent arguments.

"Republican policies aren't even consistent with their own platform," said Kaye, "They are for limited government, but they want to pick winners and losers in the market like they are with carbon capture. They are for individual liberties, yet they want to take away a woman's reproductive freedom. They say people should be personally responsible for their safety, education, and personal wealth, but they force women to grow their families when they are not ready to do so."

Kaye is running to become North Dakota District 27's State Senator in the upcoming November General Election. You can learn more about voting in North Dakota by clicking here
