Updated: Evacuation completed on Upper Red Lake due to ice breakaway

(Update: 4:22 p.m) -- The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says they received 9-1-1 calls around 11:34 a.m on Monday regarding an ice chunk that broke away and left more than 200 people stranded on the free-floating platform.

The ice chunk broke away from the shoreline, leaving a 30-yards of open water between those stranded and from land. A temporary bridge was put up to evacuate those who were on the ice platform. An emergency alert was put out by the Beltrami County Emergency Management to make sure those on the lake knew of the incident. At approximately 2:17 p.m, authorities say approximately 200 individuals were evacuated during the incident, exceeding the initial report of 100 stranded individuals.

(Upper Red Lake, MN) -- First responders are working to evacuate more than 100 people from a large ice chunk that broke free on Upper Red Lake.
