Bismarck, ND) -- Seven candidates are applying to fill an upcoming North Dakota Supreme Court vacancy.
Current justice Gerald VanderWalle is retiring at the end of January, leaving a spot open on the court.
Three district judges and four attorneys have submitted applications to fill the position. The Judicial Nominating Committee will screen the applicants and submit a list of nominees to Governor Doug Burgum.
The governor can choose from the list, direct the committee to reconvene, or call for a special election to fill the remaining term.
