(Fargo, ND) -- There some good news, but a grim bigger picture being painted when it comes to students in North Dakota getting the attention they need.

Data from the American School Counselor Association and the National Center for Education Statistics indicates that North Dakota ranks well in the ratio of students to counselors.

North Dakota has a ratio of 297 students per counselor. The state is sixth on the list of most counselors per student.

There is a caveat to the findings though, as the American School Counselor Association recommends a 250 to one counselor to student ratio.

An emphasis on mental health is expected in the upcoming North Dakota legislative session, beginning January 3rd.
