Senator John Hoeven: Illegal crossings across entire U.S. Canada border up 300 percent

(Fargo, ND) -- Senator John Hoeven expressing concerns when it comes to illegal crossings at the U.S. Canada border.

"The number of incursions on our northern border, this is across the whole northern border, has gone up 300 percent to more than 100,000 people in the last year," said Hoeven.

Hoeven met with Customs and Border Protection officials and agents Wednesday in Grand Forks to learn what they need to bolster their security efforts.  Hoeven says the Grand Forks Sector for CBP is responsible for patrolling a 900 mile stretch from the Great Lakes to Montana. Hoeven says their current staffing at 200 agents is not enough.

"We've been working with Customs and Border Protection to get more security on the northern border as well as the southern border," said Hoeven.
