(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota University System is updating its first-year admission requirements.

Students going into certain courses will still be required to take standardized testing for placement reasons, but won't be denied admission because of low scores.

The legislature decided last session to stop paying for ACT testing for all juniors unless to school districts use the tests as an "accountability tool."

The new standard will take effect August 1st at all eleven NDUS schools.
