Search begins after North Dakota State Penitentiary Warden resigns

(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota State Penitentiary Warden is stepping down.

James P. Sayler officially announced his resignation Tuesday. He was on leave before officially handing in his papers this week.

Sayler had served as warden since 2019.

The state is now actively searching for his replacement.

The maximum security prison located in Bismarck can hold over 1500 prisoners at a time.
