(Bismarck, ND) -- Organizations of all shapes and sizes are able to help feed students who may otherwise have a hard time finding consistent meals, and a state program is asking for applicants to help operate a critical program to tackle food insecurity.

The request comes from the Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota's State Superintendent, who announced the state's Department of Public Instruction is asking for 10 applicants to help organize the state's Summer Food Service Program and help feed students while school is on summer break.

"The Department of Public Instruction is seeking applications from organizations interested in operating North Dakota’s Summer Food Service Program. The program offers meals to children when school is not in session, "said a representative from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction in a statement to WDAY Radio.

Sponsors can come in various forms, including "residential summer camps, private nonprofit organizations, public schools, nonprofit private schools, and local, municipal, county, tribal or state government units." Eligibility rules say at least 50% of the meals must be eligible for free or at least for a reduced-price, based on local school or census data.
