North Dakota month-long campaign targets distracted drivers

(Fargo, ND) -- A new effort is launching that organizers say is aimed at improving safety on North Dakota's roadways.

"You see all the time, people on their phone, or people driving while they're on their phone, and we all see it. We all know it's an issue. Lane departure crashes are the leading cause of fatal crashes in North Dakota, and why are you leaving a lane? Most likely you're probably distracted," said Transportation Department spokesperson Lauren Wahlman

Wahlman says the campaign will run through the month of April. It's called "U Drive, U Text, U Pay." The campaign, which we're told includes additional law enforcement patrols, is part of the state's Vision Zero initiative.
