Thompson man faces charges after standoff with deputies

(THOMPSON, ND) — A Thompson man is facing charges after barricading himself in a home.

Authorities say they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on 44-year-old Joseph Rud. After several minutes of attempting to reach Rud, deputies breached the door and gave him commands to come out. He didn’t comply. They found an empty rifle case and box of shells in a bedroom. Rud was barricading himself in another room and SWAT was called.

Rud eventually surrendered peacefully and was transported to jail for his warrants and suspicion of preventing arrest on a felony charge and felon in possession of a firearm.
