DETROIT LAKES, MINN. – A tornado touched down on the west side of Floyd Lake, near Detroit Lakes, Monday evening.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office says two people were taken to the Detroit Lakes hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office says the twister downed trees and powerlines and caused damage to homes and other properties.
An emergency shelter has been set up at M State College in Detroit Lakes.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Forks reports multiple buildings with roofs missing from them. According to Flag Family Media Chief Meteorologist Dean Wysocki, early indications point towards an EF-2 tornado.
Detroit Lakes Public Utilities says crews are working to restore power. The utility is urging residents to stay away from any downed power lines.
The extent of the damage and the number of outages are not yet known.
