UPDATE – Republican State Representative Desiree Morton refutes Immigration Development Center Fowzia Adde’s claim that the two worked together.
Adde is originally from Somalia and is a naturalized American citizen.
“Why would conservatives link themselves with members of the Somalian community? True conservatives would not because they understand that Islam is not a religion; it’s an ideology. An ideology that is built not on assimilation, but on invasion,” Morton wrote on Facebook referencing GOP legislators phone banking with Adde for North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak’s campaign.
Morton said she first met Adde in fall 2025 at an organizational meeting for the Peaceful March Against Violence and Drugs. They met a week or two later to discuss alleged fraudulent activity Adde said was happening within organizations in Fargo. Morton suggested Adde contact State Auditor Josh Gallion to see what he could do.
“At some point during the meeting, I asked Fowzia where she was from. She told me she was from Somalia. I responded by telling her that I was a bit concerned with the Somalians because of what was happening in Minneapolis,” Morton wrote in an email to Flag Family News. “At that time, she told me that it wasn’t the Somalians causing the problems in Minneapolis. That kind of made me ponder a bit, and we all know now that it is indeed the Somalians that are defrauding not only the people of Minnesota, but other states throughout the U.S.”
Morton said they left on good terms.
Adde said she would call Flag Family News back when we reached out to her about Morton’s comments regarding Minneapolis.
Adde shared text messages between her and Morton. Morton said she suggested Adde hear North Dakota Republican Party Chair Matt Simon speak at an event “since she presented herself as a conservative.”
Morton said she met with someone from the new American community who brought up Adde.
“This person told me at that time about something that had occurred the previous year involving Fowzia. That particular incident, which was attested to by others, shed new light on Fowzia and her activities in the city of Fargo. At that point I realized that Fowzia was not who she presented herself to be, and I did not respond to any of her texts or calls from then on. We never met again,” Morton wrote to Flag Family News.
Flag Family News asked Morton what those allegations are and who brought them forward.
”I am not at liberty to give out that information at this time,” Morton wrote in an email.

FARGO, N.D. – State Representative Desiree Morton of Fargo slammed her fellow Republican legislators and North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak’s campaign for associating with a local immigrant advocate despite Morton allegedly exchanging text messages with her.
On Sunday, June 7, Morton posted pictures on Facebook of Immigration Development Center Executive Director Fowzia Adde at a phone bank event for Fedorchak’s campaign with State Senator Judy Lee and State Representative Austen Schauer of West Fargo.
Adde says she was born in Somalia and is a naturalized American citizen.

“I work with everybody. I even worked with her. She thinks I’m so bad, why did she work with me before? You are just taking advantage of the last day before the election,” Adde said on Monday, June 8.
Adde shared pictures of her and Morton with Flag Family News she says was at a meeting for the Peaceful March Against Violence and Drugs that was held in Fargo in October 2025.

She also shared text messages she says are between her and Morton where the politician allegedly suggested she go to an event with North Dakota Republican Party Chair Matt Simon and reach out to Fargo City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg.
Morton isn’t on the ballot this year. Only North Dakota legislative candidates in odd numbered districts are up for election unless there’s an open seat. Morton serves in District 46.
Morton also mentioned Adde was a special guest at the Global Somali Awards in Saint Paul last weekend. She called Adde “a well-known and respected member of the Somali community”.
“Everyone knows that the Somalis have defrauded Americans out of billions of dollars throughout Minnesota and all over the United States,” Morton wrote. “If we think that we as a state are exempt from fraud then we are either very naive or extremely deluded.”
Adde said she’s never been investigated for fraud and she won an award at the event.
“In my budget, I have nothing in government money. If anybody wants anything, they can come investigate me. I don’t have time lying and accusement,” Adde said.
Flag Family News reached out to Morton and the Fedorchak campaign for comment, but we haven’t heard back.
