North Dakota Department of Transportation wins AAMVA award

(Bismarck, ND) --The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators has announced the North Dakota Department of Transportation Safety Division is the recipient of the 2021 Public Affairs and Consumer Education Overall Campaign Award (Budget under $50k) for their Melanie Johnson Distracted Driving campaign.

The 2020 campaign tells the story of Melanie Johnson and her family, who were side swiped by a distracted semi-truck driver while traveling on the interstate. This is the second straight year NDDOT was recognized by AAMVA in the PACE category. Last year, NDDOT was awarded for their Nelson Rural Roads campaign.

Both campaigns are part of the Vision Zero strategy that promotes personal responsibility when traveling by always wearing a seat belt, using appropriate child passenger safety seats, following all posted speed limits, and driving sober and distraction-free.

The award will be presented to NDDOT in Indianapolis in November.
