Project to Reclaim Coal Mining Lands Wins Federal Award

(Bismarck, ND) -- A project coordinated by the North Dakota Public Service Commission is the winner of an innovation award.

The Noonan mine cleanup process uses foamed sand to fill voids left by abandoned mines in the northwestern part of the state. The foam is environmentally friendly and a less expensive replacement for grout.

The PSC received its third award from the federal Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement since 2016 for the Noonan project.
