October 2024 – Officer Patrick Thomas (Fargo Police Department)
Officer Patrick Thomas has been an integral part of the Fargo Police Department since becoming an officer October 20, 2014. Serving primarily as a night shift patrol officer, he has consistently demonstrated his dedication to public safety and being a mentor for the next generation of FPD officers. Over the last five and a half years, Officer Thomas has served as a Police Training Officer where he has been instrumental in mentoring and preparing new officers for the responsibilities of solo patrol.
In 2016, Officer Thomas earned his certification as a Drug Recognition Expert, a role in which he has excelled. His expertise has made him a valuable resource not only within The Fargo Police Department, but also for surrounding law enforcement agencies as his expertise is used to help ensure those under the influence of drugs or alcohol are identified and removed from the roads to keep the community safe.
Recently, Officer Thomas was assigned to the Traffic Safety Team where his focus will continue to be on promoting road safety, impaired driving and reducing traffic-related incidents. Highly motivated in this new role, he brings a wealth of experience in dealing with impaired driving offenses and has already proven his effectiveness, having been credited with 346 impaired driving arrests since his career began. Officer Thomas’s commitment to his role as an Officer in the Fargo community and his ongoing contributions to public safety make him a vital part of The Fargo Police Department.
In recognition of his exceptional leadership and commitment, Jon was honored with the Supervisor of the Year award in 2023, an accolade made even more meaningful as it was awarded by his peers. His dedication, versatility, and positive influence make him a vital part of the Sheriff’s Office.
