8-14-21 Energy Matters Hour 1

Every Saturday Energy Matters brings you the latest in energy and technology advancements and the people behind them.

John Harju, vice president for strategic partnerships at the UND Energy & Environmental Research Center, joins us to talk about the EERC's research of rare earth materials and the recent $1.5M grant from the US Department of Energy to further this research

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently awarded $1.5 million to the University of North Dakota’s Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) to support the production of rare earth elements. First, what are rare earth materials?

The U.S. is in short supply of rare earth materials, at least when it comes to national production, right? Why is this a concern?

EERC recently finalized another related research project that investigated the potential to make graphene-based products from North Dakota lignite. What are some of the major findings about these products and their application?

Now with DOE funding, what are the next steps in EERC research of rare earth elements?

Lignite - Luke Hellier joins us. He’s here today to talk about the Coalition for a Secure Energy Future 2021 Energy Champion Awards for Minnesota legislators

What is the Energy Champion Award?

Who were the legislators recognized and why were they recognized?

What is the main goal of the Coalition for Minnesota and North Dakota?

What plans do you have for the remainder of the year?

 Mineral Tracker - Joel Brown

MineralTracker is a great tool for North Dakota mineral owners. It’s easy to sign up, it’s easy to use, and it’s the easiest way to organize and understand your mineral assets in the Bakken. But one of MineralTracker’s strongest points is the team that backs it up—a team with over 70 years of combined oil and gas experience.

Tell us a little about the formation of the team. Who’s on it, where did you all come from?

Why has it been such a focus to put together a strong roster to back up MineralTracker?

Walk us through what it looks like when a mineral owner comes to you?

How does a mineral owner get in touch with the MineralTracker team?
