Each year we present an award for outstanding mine reclamation effort at the Lignite Energy Council’s autumn meeting.  This is for something that really goes above and beyond the requirements or something that incorporates new innovations or technology.

The recipient this year is the Coyote Creek Mine which is SW of Beulah.  This is North Dakota’s newest mine and it provides coal for the Coyote plant.  Their haul road from the mine to the plant traverses steep topography with fills up to 50’ deep.  Their water management plan to prevent erosion and sedimentation along that road is remarkable and deserving of recognition.

Kenny Stein is the Director of Policy at the Institute for Energy Research. He joins us today to talk about the energy implications on the potential passage of the Dem's Reconciliation Bill
