Shanley's Joe Kava is Thursday's Student Athlete of the Day

 

Today's Student Athlete of the Day comes from Shanley High School and is brought to you by Hurley's Religious Goods, Taxman, Dave Noah Remax Legacy, GPK Products and Modern Market Realtors.

Last year, the Shanley football team won the 2A state Championship and this season moved up to 3A and the Deacons proved they could play with anyone in the state, going 6-3 including a 42-20 win over EDC champions and State Runner up West Fargo-Sheyenne.

The Deacons were lead  by SR Joe Kava  who was a 4 year starter and  in 2019  started on both the offensive and defensive lines. This fall he led the EDC in tackles, sacks and tackles for loss. He was named to the All State teams as a sophomore, Junior and senior sand will play in college at NDSU with his brother Jake.

Off the field Joe is involved in weight training club  and In the spring Joe is a thrower for the Deacons Track & Field team. Joe takes his studies very seriously and through Shanley has volunteered in the community at homeless shelters and non profit organizations. Activities that he has helped with include, serving meals to the homeless and picking up trash in downtown Fargo.
