Fargo Invaders season tentatively set to begin July 11

The Northern Elite Football League met Saturday morning to discuss the status of the 2020 semi-pro football season.

The decision was made to postpone the season by one month, which would put the season beginning on July 11, with the championship scheduled for August 29.

“All teams want a season, we all love football, which is why we do what we do,” Fargo Invaders President Matt Petznick said. “But we have to maintain the health and safety considerations.  We will have a final decision on June 6th.”

One of the biggest challenges for teams in in the league will be field availability, the league said in a press release.  Rentals may be more difficult this season with some schools closed until August. Also, CDC guidelines on large gatherings will be examined, with the possibility of playing without fans this season.
