Minnesota’s showdown vs #16 ranked Northwestern on Saturday has been cancelled. The cause for this week's game is an increasing amount of positive COVID-19 cases within the program.
This is the second consecutive game that has been cancelled for Minnesota (Wisconsin Nov. 28 and Northwestern Dec 5.). The Gophers currently have 47 active cases between both players and staff. In total there are 21 players and 26 staffers that currently have the virus.
This is the largest outbreak for a Big Ten school this year, with the other 2 schools that had been shut down in Wisconsin and Maryland peeking at 30 active cases. Minnesota is still scheduled to visit Nebraska on Dec. 12.
