The Minnesota Twins have a new Triple-A affiliate and they’re 1,000 miles closer. The St. Paul Saints will soon be announced as the Twins top minor league affiliate. The Saints have been a member of the independent baseball American Association since 2005.
This move will help the Twins out with sending big leaguers on rehab assignments and pulling up a fresh arm for a game or two, as CHS Field is only an 11 mile drive from Target Field. The previous Triple-A affiliate was the Rochester Red Wings in New York. The Red Wings have already announced that they will become an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Twins minor league players will also benefit from the newer CHS Field facilities as the stadium opened up in May of 2015.
In addition to the Twins Triple-A affiliate moving they will also have a new Double-A affiliate starting this season. The Wichita Wind Surge will no longer be the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Instead they are dropping down to the Double-A level to become Minnesota’s new Double-A affiliate. The Twins previous Double-A affiliate was the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
