NDSU’s Watson and Wegner Named MVFC Players Of The Week

     North Dakota State wide receiver Christian Watson has been named the Missouri Valley Offensive Player of the Week. Punter Garrett Wegner was named the MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Both players won their awards for their performances in a 23-20 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday.

     Watson racked up 229 all-purpose yards in the win earning his first MVFC Offensive Player of the Week Award. He caught two passes for 86 yards. His longest reception was for 61 yards and set up a 42-yard field goal giving NDSU a 10-6 at halftime. His second reception was 25 yards and it helped set up the Bison’s final touchdown of the game. Watson also scored NDSU’s first touchdown on a 100-yard kick return TD.

     Wegner averaged 44.2 yards per punt on four punts earning his fourth career MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week Award. His longest punt was 48 yards and he pinned Northern Iowa inside the 5-yard line twice. This was Wegner’s second time winning the award this season.
