University of North Dakota incoming freshman forward Dylan James has been added to Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp. The camp will take place at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Winsport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary and will take place later in July.

This past season James played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Sioux City Musketeers. He had an outstanding season for the Musketeers tallying 61 points in 62 games, becoming the first USHL rookie to surpass the 60-point mark in six years. He racked up 28 goals and 33 assists en route to being named the USHL Rookie of the Year. James is the first UND commit to earn the honor since Brandon Bochenski in 2001. Tyler Palmiscno (1999) and Karl Goehring (1997) also won the USHL Rookie of the Year award.

James was selected in the second round at 40th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in this past week's 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He will come to Grand Forks as the highest draft pick on the 2022-23 Fighting Hawks roster.

If James is selected, he would be the first UND product to represent Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships since Jacob Bernard-Docker in 2020.

Hockey Canada has announced the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships will take place from Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 5, 2023 in Halifax, N.S. and Moncton, N.B.
