Outdoors Angle: Waiting For The Fall Bite

It's no secret that the fishing has been horrible for weeks. This slowdown is rather unique because the last two years the bite never stopped. This year it all stopped abruptly about August 1st.

My thoughts are the water temperatures have been rising the past few weeks, not dropping, which is usually the case heading into September. Water temperatures were around 73 a week ago and now are in the upper 70's.

The Fall bite as we call it is going to happen. It's a matter of when. Fishing in September has been a challenge the last few years and the Fall bite

now seems to take off around early October. We are at the mercy of Mother Nature and she dictates the Fall bite. As the water temps slide downward into the low 60's, the walleyes and crappies put on the feedbag. That magical 60's temperatures are usually the beginning and it just gets better and better.

Personally, I am trying not to get too depressed as my last three outings were dismal. I know down the road the Fall bite will happen and I look forward to much improved fishing well into November.

     It's not over yet!
