As we approach the mid section of November, it's rattle time! Rattling bucks at this time of the season is very effective for getting the bucks to come to you. I use a rattle bag which is a dozen, porcelain rods when rubbed together, simulates bucks fighting. They can be very loud when you bang them against a tree or work them vigorously between your hands. I recently rattled an 8 point buck in from a distance of 2000 yards. He came running at full tilt to my stand but didn't give me a bow shot. It was the highlight of my Fall so far. When a buck hears the rattle, be on your toes because they come in feisty and angry and ready for a fight. Rattling is a great way to get the bucks to come to you rather than waiting for lady luck to come around.

It doesn't hurt to add a grunt call as well to your arsenal as the grunt call is a good tactic for coaxing them even closer if they stop short with the rattle bag. An occasional grunt and a series of rattles should be done sparingly. I try to do a series once every hour or so and try not to overdo it.

We have about 10 more days for the rattle bag and grunt call to bring 'em in. The best is yet to come!
