On Monday afternoon the league office announced that North Dakota State’s Paige Vargas has earned the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Pitcher of the Week honor.
In two games in the circle this past week, Vargas racked up 14 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched, while also holding opponent batters to a .180 batting average.
The first game Vargas pitched was against Brown University and it was a gem. She posted a complete game shutout only allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. The Bison won 2-0.
Vargas’ second game came against No. 20 Auburn. She threw six complete innings with seven strikeouts and forced four double plays. She would give up four earned runs and NDSU fell 4-0.
This is the first time Vargas has garnered a weekly honor this season and the second time in her collegiate career.
Vargas and the Bison will return to the field this weekend for the Blues City Classic. NDSU will play five games over the weekend, beginning with a matchup against Drake on Friday, Mar. 3 at 10 a.m.
