NDSU’s Nelson earns All-Summit League first team honors, Skunberg honorable mention

The Summit League announced its 2022-23 basketball season awards with a pair of Bison earning an honor.

Junior forward Grant Nelson earned a spot on the All-Summit League first team and All-Defensive Team, while junior guard Boden Skunberg was named a Summit League honorable mention.

Nelson, a Devils Lake, N.D. native, led NSDU in five statistical categories averaging 19.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game during the regular season. Nelson also led the Summit League in rebounds and ranked second in blocks. He tallied eight double-doubles in conference play.

Skunberg, a native of Jamestown, N.D. ranked second on the Bison averaging 15.4 points per game, including shooting 49 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range in Summit League play. Skunberg added 5.4 rebounds per game in conference play.

The No. 3 seeded NDSU Bison will square off with No. 6 seed South Dakota in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, March 5 at 8:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
