Temporary Ban On Abortion Counseling Requirement Upheld in South Dakota

(Pierre, SD) -- A judge is upholding a temporary ban against a South Dakota law requiring women to get counseling before an abortion.

The ruling Friday kept the 2011 law on hold until she makes a final ruling. Planned Parenthood sued to stop enforcement of the law shortly after it was passed and obtained the ban, which South Dakota challenged.

Governor Kristi Noem says the state will appeal the most recent decision to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
