World of Outlaws sprints rained out in Grand Forks Friday, shift focus to Fargo

(Grand Forks, ND) -- Many of the world's top sprint car racers were set to take the green flag Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as the NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car series was scheduled to be at The Bullring for the second time this season. But, Mother Nature won again, nearly two months after being rained out in their first trip to Grand Forks.

"With thunderstorms surrounding the area all day long, officials have made the call to postpone Friday’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at River Cities Speedway to Wednesday, August 25," a post on the World of Outlaws website read late Friday afternoon. The North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network reported 1.15 inches of rain fell in a short amount of time in the Grand Forks area, forcing officials to postpone Friday night's races. Tickets purchased for Friday night's races will be good on Wednesday.

Now, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series shifts its focus to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. According to series officials, the 3/8th-mile oval is the eighth-most visited track in Series history with 65 previous Outlaw races at the facility.

The green flag drops with hot laps at 6:30 p.m., and racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The series will make a trip to Huset's Speedway in Brandon, SD on Sunday, before making the return trip to Grand Forks to make up Friday's event.
