Investigation underway after officer-involved shooting in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – An officer-involved shooting investigation is underway in Grand Forks.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1400 block of 10th Avenue North Friday evening to assist Grand Forks Police. A female had called into dispatch stating she was holding a male hostage.

Officers located the apartment unit and were made aware of exigent circumstances, which required them to make entry to the apartment in order to protect the hostage.

Once inside, the officers observed the hostage and suspect. When the deputy observed the threat, a firearm was discharged multiple times by the deputy at the suspect.

The suspect was not harmed, but the suspect was struck multiple times. The suspect was provided aid and she was transported to Altru Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.

The deputy who discharged his firearm is on administrative leave until the completion of the investigation, per standard procedure.

The case is under investigation by the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Forks Police Department and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
