Becker Co. Sheriff’s Office warns about CodeRED cyberattack

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has stopped using the CodeRED emergency notification platform because of a nationwide cyberattack and data breach.

It sends out alerts during critical events like severe weather and public safety threats.

Becker County says users’ data like their names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and passwords could be compromised.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s going to use the Crisis24 program going forward “to ensure the highest level of security and reliability for our residents’ emergency notifications.”

Authorities advise CodeRED users to change their passwords, verify that emergency alerts are activated on your phone’s settings to receive wireless emergency alerts and integrated public alert and warning system notifications and follow official law enforcement pages on Facebook.
