FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo City Commission has approved a 10-year agreement with AXON for technology-related services for the Fargo Police Department.
One new feature will be offered – Drone as a First Responder. This service will allow for greater efficiencies for the department. It’ll also increase safety to first responders, law enforcement and the general public.
Chief David Zibolski said while the technology itself is new to the AXON program, it’s not new to the city.
“This technology is not new,” he said. “It’s an expansion of what we already have.”
The region has had a drone team since 2018.
Commissioner Dave Piepkorn questioned whether or not the city could afford the technology and suggested a one-year agreement. Assistant Chief Travis Stefonowicz said the company doesn’t typically do one-year agreements, but rather 5- or 10-year agreements.
Commissioners voted 3-2 to approve the request.
