Homicide investigation underway on Spirit Lake Reservation

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. – A homicide investigation is underway on the Spirit Lake Reservation.

According to the Spirit Lake Tribal Council, the homicide investigation began Sunday after Jesse Clark Davis was killed.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss,” said Chairwoman Lonna Jackson-Street. “We are grateful to all of the agencies who responded and assisted today, including our law enforcement partners. During this difficult time, we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community.”

The suspect, a juvenile male, is in custody. Authorities will not identify the male due to his age, in accordance with juvenile justice protections under state and federal law. These protections apply regardless of the severity of the alleged offense, according to a press release.

The incident is believed to be isolated and there’s no ongoing threat to the public.

The Fort Totten Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Department, in coordination with the FBI, is investigating the incident.
